TRAIN OF THOUGHT
My favorite musical term of the week
Parlando
I use parlando (It.) in many chant arrangements to indicate that singers should use a speech-like style of inflection, particularly on the reciting tone. This style mimics natural speech, making the text more understandable. It's also easier to sing this way; pounding every note is exhausting on the voice and tiring for listeners, too.

ABOUT ME
Hello, and welcome. I'm the head choir director at an Eastern Orthodox parish in the United States. I'm also a convert (refugee?) from a grab bag of Protestant denominations.
